CSIR-Central Road Research Institute में highways और railways के लिए geosynthetics पर दो दिन का national symposium चल रहा है। Focus इस बात पर है कि polymer-based engineering materials road और rail infrastructure की durability, drainage, slope stability और distress mitigation में कैसे इस्तेमाल किए जाएं।
Geosynthetics आखिर होते क्या हैं?
यह broad category geotextiles, geogrids, geocells और दूसरे polymeric materials को cover करती है जिन्हें soil reinforcement, separation, filtration, drainage और erosion control जैसे engineering functions के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।
India के लिए relevance क्या है?
Symposium में high-speed rail track-bed stabilisation, reinforced soil walls, mountain corridors, rockfall protection और pavement reinforcement जैसे use-cases पर चर्चा हुई। Himalayan और North-East corridors जैसे difficult terrains में इन technologies की relevance ज्यादा हो सकती है।
क्या यह नई technology है?
नहीं। Geosynthetics पहले से civil engineering में इस्तेमाल होते हैं। नया सवाल standardisation, field performance और life-cycle design का है, खासकर तब जब India highways, freight corridors और rail infrastructure पर बड़े पैमाने पर निवेश कर रहा है।
