International Atomic Energy Agency ने कहा है कि North Korea ने Yongbyon nuclear complex में नया uranium enrichment facility बनाया है। Satellite imagery और state-media photographs के analysis के आधार पर agency का आकलन है कि building में 28 centrifuge cascades तक की जगह हो सकती है।
IAEA ने यह कैसे पता लगाया?
IAEA inspectors को 2009 से North Korea में access नहीं मिला है। इसलिए agency satellite imagery, open-source visuals और remote monitoring के जरिए nuclear activity का assessment करती है।
चिंता क्यों बढ़ी है?
Uranium enrichment civilian nuclear fuel और weapons-grade material दोनों से जुड़ सकता है, यह enrichment level पर निर्भर करता है। IAEA ने Yongbyon के साथ Kangson site पर भी expanded activity की बात कही है और development को गंभीर चिंता का विषय बताया है।
North Korea का रुख
Pyongyang अपने nuclear weapons status को irreversible बताता रहा है और IAEA की authority को खारिज करता है। इस development को final weapons production figure की तरह नहीं पढ़ना चाहिए, क्योंकि IAEA के पास on-site inspection access नहीं है।
