Reuters ने 10 September को रिपोर्ट किया कि National Payments Corporation of India ऐसी registry विकसित कर रहा है जो UPI पर transaction करने वाले AI agents की पहचान, verification और monitoring कर सके. यह wider agentic-payments framework का हिस्सा है और शुरुआती use cases छोटे, routine payments हो सकते हैं. रिपोर्ट के समय final public rollout और पूरा rulebook घोषित नहीं हुआ था.
Technology का basic idea यह है कि user software को सीमित authority दे और agent तय rules के भीतर action ले. मुश्किल सवाल accountability का है. Agent instruction गलत समझे, compromise हो जाए या unauthorised payment करे तो responsibility user, agent provider, bank, merchant और payment network के बीच कैसे तय होगी?
India के लिए यह इसलिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि UPI पहले से ही बहुत बड़ा retail-payment infrastructure है. Autonomous software जुड़ने पर convenience बढ़ सकती है, लेकिन consent, authentication, fraud control, data governance और consumer protection की नई समस्याएं भी आएंगी. इसलिए reported registry को developing infrastructure की तरह पढ़ना चाहिए, final liability regime की तरह नहीं.
