Reuters के मुताबिक August में India के benchmark sponge-iron prices दो साल के high पर पहुंचे, क्योंकि imported coal महंगा हुआ और domestic supply tight रही. Sponge iron secondary steel producers के लिए important feedstock है और coal costs के प्रति काफी sensitive होता है.

Development energy, logistics और industrial competitiveness को जोड़ता है. Higher coal prices downstream steel, construction और manufacturing की input cost बढ़ा सकते हैं. यह यह भी दिखाता है कि large domestic coal production के बावजूद India कुछ coal grades के imports पर depend करता है.
