BRICS के finance ministers और central bank governors ने global development financial institutions में reforms की मांग की है. उनका तर्क है कि governance structure में emerging market economies के बढ़ते economic weight को बेहतर तरीके से reflect किया जाना चाहिए.
उन्होंने efficient, lower-cost और secure cross-border payment systems पर काम आगे बढ़ाने का भी समर्थन किया. यह discussion इसलिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि member countries trade settlement में friction कम करने के रास्ते खोज रहे हैं, लेकिन इसका मतलब एक common BRICS currency बनाना नहीं है.
भारत के लिए यह मुद्दा दो लंबे policy priorities को जोड़ता है: IMF और World Bank जैसी institutions में developing countries की बड़ी voice, और borders के पार interoperable digital-payment infrastructure.
