Centre ने Rajasthan के Jaisalmer में Ramgarh के पास Great Indian Bustard habitat के नजदीक proposed limestone mine की environmental clearance defer कर दी है.
Environment ministry के expert panel ने mining plan में changes मांगे और Wildlife Institute of India की recommendations follow करने पर जोर दिया. Great Indian Bustard critically endangered species है और India में इसकी wild population बहुत सीमित रह गई है.
यह case एक project से बड़ा है. India के arid grasslands को land-use decisions में अक्सर 'wasteland' की तरह देखा गया है, जबकि वे highly specialised biodiversity को support करते हैं. इसलिए mining, infrastructure और transmission projects cumulative ecological impact के कठिन सवाल उठाते हैं.
