India के forex reserves रिकॉर्ड $785.7 billion: एक हफ्ते में करीब $45 billion की छलांग

RBI data के मुताबिक forex reserves लगातार दसवें हफ्ते बढ़े। Latest jump policy-driven dollar inflows के बाद आया है।

India के foreign exchange reserves 4 September को खत्म हुए सप्ताह में record $785.7 billion पर पहुंच गए। RBI data के मुताबिक एक ही हफ्ते में reserves करीब $44.9 billion बढ़े - यह unusually large weekly jump है।

इस बढ़ोतरी का बड़ा कारण special forex mobilisation measures के तहत आए dollar inflows रहे। Banks ने non-residents और overseas lenders से बड़े पैमाने पर foreign currency जुटाई, जिसका एक हिस्सा RBI के साथ swap किया गया। इससे central bank की foreign assets position तेज़ी से बढ़ी।

इतनी बड़ी reserve pile क्यों महत्वपूर्ण है

Forex reserves RBI को currency market में volatility के समय dollars उपलब्ध कराने की क्षमता देते हैं। अगर rupee पर अचानक pressure बढ़े, तो central bank reserves का उपयोग disorderly moves को smooth करने के लिए कर सकता है।

Indian Express के मुताबिक इस record jump के बाद India ने reserve holdings में Russia को पीछे छोड़कर दुनिया में चौथा स्थान हासिल किया। हालांकि reserve ranking अपने-आप economy की overall strength का complete measure नहीं है; external liabilities और import cover भी देखना पड़ता है।

फायदा है, लेकिन एक दूसरी समस्या भी

Foreign currency inflows जब RBI के जरिए rupees में convert होते हैं, तो domestic banking system में liquidity बढ़ सकती है। हाल के हफ्तों में यही हुआ और surplus cash ने overnight money-market rates को policy corridor के नीचे धकेल दिया।

इसलिए record reserves और RBI की liquidity-drain operations एक ही कहानी के दो हिस्से हैं। External buffer मजबूत हुआ है, लेकिन central bank को domestic liquidity और inflation risk भी साथ-साथ manage करना पड़ रहा है।
