Post-monsoon demand बढ़ रही है और coking coal महंगा हुआ है, लेकिन rising imports domestic mills की pricing power को सीमित कर रहे हैं.
Indian hot-rolled coil prices August से early September के बीच करीब ₹4,000 per tonne बढ़कर four-year high पर पहुंच गए. Reuters द्वारा cited analysts के अनुसार near term में और increase संभव है. Higher coking-coal costs, maintenance shutdowns और infrastructure तथा automobile demand की वापसी market को tighten कर रही है.
दूसरी तरफ imports तेजी से बढ़े हैं. April-July में India finished steel का net importer रहा और imports साल-दर-साल 36.6% बढ़े, जिनमें China की share 31% थी. Safeguard duties और anti-dumping investigation दिखाते हैं कि domestic pricing raw-material security और trade policy दोनों से जुड़ी है.
